Health Insurance

Valid health insurance is mandatory as a condition of acceptance at Banff Centre. Health care in Canada is very expensive! Canadians are covered by their provincial health insurance plan while studying or working temporarily in Alberta and may be eligible for Alberta Health Care (AHCIP) coverage after three months. Please visit the Alberta Health website for information regarding the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan.

International Participants: Non-Canadians should refer to our Health Insurance for International Participants at The Banff Centre (pdf) for advice on obtaining health insurance coverage, and are required to complete and return the Confirmation of Health Insurance Coverage form (pdf) prior to the commencement of their program. The Banff Centre's International Insurance group plan provides excellent health care coverage at a reasonable price, and is available to artists and faculty. For more information visit or call toll free in North America: 1.877.873.8447.

Albertans only: Alberta Blue Cross provides supplementary health and dental benefit programs to meet your health care needs. Not all health expenses are covered by your Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) and these costs must be paid out-of-pocket. Alberta residents with a valid AHCIP card are qualified to purchase an individual health plan through Alberta Blue Cross. To find out more, visit or call toll free at 1.800.394.1965.
